Fabulous 50's

Quite a bit has happened in the last 2 weeks. Here is a quick recap (which will be followed by details)
- Annie flew down to Tucson for an interview
- Erik went backpacking
- Wyatt ate a lot of duck feed
- Sawyer woke us up regularly by vomiting
- Finding a place to live
- Getting Erik ready for med school
- Annie gets in shape with some senior citizens

Interview:
About a week and a half ago I received a phone call from Catalina Foothills School District. A high school health/PE position opened up unexpectedly. So I flew down the following Wednesday to interview. Prior to flying down I was able to get lots of advice from veteran teachers. They really helped me in understanding the best way to communicate and present myself. Now this was the first time I had ever been to Tucson and in fact I had yet to see a Saguaro Cactus (pronounced so-waar-o) until this trip. I had a wonderful experience interviewing and was able to take a tour of this really awesome high school. They had over 5 buildings on 40 some acres. A sunken in football stadium, an outdoor AND an indoor climbing wall, a dance studio, 3 basketball courts, 12 tennis courts and anything else you can think of, they had it. Not to mention this school, the previous year, received a 5 million dollar technology grant. Basically, this school is loaded. To top it all off, they have wonderful staff. I was able to tour the campus and talk with a PE teacher there. She was very helpful in helping me understand their program and the overall school.

I flew out the next morning so I wasn't able to see much of Tucson aside from looking for a hotel to stay at. By the way, if you are ever in Tucson, La Quinta was phenomenal. They had wonderful service and were very reasonable. Now that I am back in Fort Collins I am getting anxious and doubtful but I will hear more at the end of this week of what the status is on hiring.

Backpacking/Med School:

Erik and his close friends Cameron and Zach were able to enjoy a 3 day backpacking trip up in the Reiwa Mountains. Cameron had flown in from Palo Alto just for the trip. They enjoyed some hiking, fishing, and the joys of snow in June. When they were fly fishing, Cameron was just about 30 yards from a bull moose who meandered over to the river. Overall it was a great trip that they all needed.

Erik, Cameron, Zach and Papa (Z's grandpa)

Since we have been in Colorado, Erik has been practicing Spanish with Rosetta Stone. Recently he signed up for his classes and is getting the list of things he needs for school. Man are they specific! Especially with the programs and computer specks he needs. He is getting more excited about getting down there and is in even more awe than ever. It can be pretty amazing to where God takes us on our journey in life.

This is a collage all in coming med students had to submit. I actually was the one who made it and turned it in for him :)

Sawyer/Wyatt:
Since our brother Spencer has ducks, it has been Wyatt's daily mission to get into their feed. Yesterday when I was picking up our dogs' excrement, I had the pleasure of finding mostly duck feed that Wyatt had proceeded to discard throughout the yard. Oh the joys of puppies.

Saywer on the other hand has been struggling with his digestive system. We now have him on a mixture of dry dog food, wet dog food and some plain yogurt. Apparently the plain yogurt's active ingredients helps with dogs' digestive systems. So we will see.

Housing:
We have started the house hunt via Craigs list. There are some really neat places down in Tucson. However, we have realized that there is some words that are lost in translation so to speak. For example: "Huge backyard, great for the 4th!" really translates into....."Hey, here is an open pile of dirt, there is no vegetation that will get in your way when you shoot off bottle rockets!" There have been some really neat older homes near campus that look very fun and I think we will find a neat place to live that will work for all 4 of us. We just need to keep an eye out for those "gems" that are a little too deep in the rough for us :)

Annie and the Senior Citizens;

Since we have been down in Fort Collins, I have had a great time working out and taking fitness classes at this local gym. They offer these really neat classes that I have enjoyed thus far. I went there this morning and though I would try a new class. I saw that BodyCombat would be starting soon so I rushed over to the class. I introduced myself to the instructor and she explained what equipment I needed for the class. I noticed it was a small class and I figured it was because it was 9 am on a Tuesday. Just before the class started I took a look around the room. Wait a second....I was the youngest one in the room by at least 30 years! In fact,, I could safely say all of these women were probably grandmas! It was too late, class had started and I was the furthest one from the door. Hmmm.....well I guess I will just go through with the class. Overall, it wasn't bad. In fact, I was able to get a good workout. After the class, I thanked the instructor and she said to invite others and let others know about the class. I left thinking, this really didn't seem like BodyCombat. Maybe I misunderstood what the class was. Maybe the name was really deceiving. I went up front to clarify thinking they made a mistake and misprinted the schedule. The woman, informed me that BodyCombat was going on right now, it had just started. I looked at my watch, it was 9am. What the? Great....I had looked at the class at 9am instead of 8am. Well what class was I in then. The woman laughed, "oh, you were in the Fabulous 50's class. That's so funny!" Funny, was not the first word that had come to my mind. I smiled and shook my head. I couldn't figure out what was more pathetic, the fact that I was an hour off or the fact that I had a hard workout in a senior citizens' class. I guess I need to eat more brain food :)

That's all for now. I hope to become better at posting blogs more frequently. Here's to hoping :)

Fort Fun

Now that we have been in Fort Collins for 3 weeks, I guess it is due time that I update our blog. I am very new in the blogging world and cannot make any promises of how frequent I update ours but my goal is once a week. So far in the last few weeks we have had a wonderful time and feel that we are taking advantage of all the opportunities we come across.

Over Memorial Day weekend, we enjoyed the wonderful wedding of Erik and Brianne Haagenson. We knew Erik through Young Life in Montana. Due to this connection, we were able to reunite with many YL friends, anywhere from Bozeman, all the way over to Virginia. The Archers, The Hoaks, both Matts and the Manns....we truly enjoyed our time with all of you!!!

Kelsey and Doug Hoak, Brett and Kylee Archer, Eddie, Melissa and Skylor Mann, Matt Fisher and Matt Linn....all our Young Life buddies

There used to be a window here, Erik knocked out the window and the brick wall and put in french doors. NBD.

We also helped dear friends of ours spruce up a house they recently bought. We painted, raised cabinets, put holes in walls and built a deck. Actually, we didn't do all that, Erik did all that. I mainly supervised and did a little painting :) Erik had a great surprise for their deck. Since they are die-hard Buffs fans (University of Colorado) Erik designed a neat CU inlay for the deck. It turned out beautifully, and they were more than thrilled by the surprise.
Zach finishing final touches on their deck. Notice the sweet CU inlay! My husband is one amazing guy!

We have enjoyed a couple Rockies games and went to the BodyWorld exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. It was mind blowing all the details of the human body, especially all of the real preserved human bodies on display. I highly recommend going if it is in your area.
Enjoying an evening on Pearl Street in Boulder....I thought I ordered the large crocks.....Hello!

We also have been very blessed to have a TV with channels. Now we can watch the WORLD CUP. Erik is still trying to figure out why it is such a big deal, but there have been some great games so far and we still have a whole month to go!! Hopefully the US can score on their own and not need any help from the other teams' goalies (ouch).

Wyatt on left, Saywer on right.

Sawyer and Wyatt have been enjoying the Colorado mountain air. They have been playing with Samsun, Chuck and Barb's dog and have been keenly interested in Spencer's two ducks that are in the back yard. Wyatt is growing up fast and is as devilish as ever. Yesterday we came home to: chewed up shoe, chewed up dog bed, and empty hot dog bun wrapper. This all occurred just a day after he pooped on the freshly professionally cleaned carpet. Oh the joys of puppies ;)

This week we look forward to a little vacation from our vacation. We are heading up to Grandby Colorado to a cabin my Great Uncle Albert built. So us, the dogs and my parents will enjoy the great outdoors just on the outskirts of Estes Park.

Hopefully I will update the blog sooner so you wont have to waste all your time reading one long blog :)
